Project #2 Critiques

Elizabeth:

  1. Alex Vought

  2. I am in a house and it feels cozy and inviting.

  3. Something I thought worked really well were the birds that are throughout the whole piece and the cat meowing at the end. I like how the cars sounded like they were driving by. I also like how it ended with the window closing.

  4. Something that could be improved could be some more added noises and maybe some more overlapping noises

Sabrina:

  1. Alex Vought

  2. I am outside then I walk inside a coffee shop and I feel stressed and anxious.

  3. Something I thought worked really well was the repetitive banging throughout. It helped add to the chaotic and stressful environment created.

  4. Something that could be improved would be fading some of the louder sounds in and out more so that they are still abrupt but don't seem like they are coming out of nowhere.

Maya:

  1. Alex Vought

  2. I am outside and I feel very peaceful. I'm working on some art and taking some rips.

  3. Something I thought worked really well was the background noise of the ad and the effects on the later sounds. It adds to the effect that you're smoking and getting higher as it goes on.

  4. Something that could be improved is making the change into the bad high a little slower, it transitioned to that super quickly.

Vincent:

  1. Alex Vought

  2. I am just waking up and I feel happy, there is a little cat next to me. It is a very peaceful morning.

  3. Something I thought worked really well was the train noise, I also really enjoyed the radio coming and the blahs at kevin.

  4. Something that could be improved there were some parts of dead silence while outside, i think you could have added footsteps in parts like those to show the transition or some wind.

Charlie:

  1. Alex Vought

  2. I just smoked and I feel very disoriented and confused while trying to get ready in the morning.

  3. Something I thought worked really well were the effects on some of the sounds and making some of the sounds very intense and some of them not as intense.

  4. Something that could be improved is some of the sounds are very loud, it hurt my ears a bit, I think they could be quieted just a bit and still have the same effect.

Kobe:

  1. Alex Vought

  2. I am at my house making food while doing homework

  3. I like how you can envision someone playing around while waiting around the house. I also like how the repetition in the piece was pretty subtle at times but not subtle other times

  4. I feel like the beginning could be improved a bit by layering more sounds to make it flow better with the middle/ending

Tanner:

  1. Alex Vought

  2. I just woke up and I'm getting ready but I wasn’t excited to get up at all.

  3. I like the effect on the teacher's voice because it helps frame class and responsibilities as annoying, which fits with the tone of the beginning.

  4. I think there could be more overlapping noises, just to create more of a surrounding environment, but overall it's super cohesive.

Jacob:

  1. Alex Vought

  2. I am at a concert and I go to get myself a drink, then I get a flashback to being in my house where i'm playing with my cat and doing laundry.

  3. I like how well the sounds work together and I like how you go back and forth between these two different scenes/environments. I like how for the flashbacks the sounds are more distorted and have a high contrast with the mellow sounds of the concert.

  4. I think its a bit confusing, but overall its very well done.

Rachel:

  1. Alex Vought

  2. I am outside and walking through the crunching snow, I am tired and want to get back to my campsite.

  3. I really like the difference in moods between the walking part and the campfire part. I also really like the lighter flick and the music in the background towards the end of the campfire. I also really like the crickets

  4. Something that I think could be improved is transitioning between scenes could be a little smoother and less abrupt

Sophie:

  1. Alex Vought

  2. I am making coffee in the morning and showering. I feel tired but happy because its a nice morning and all my pets are with me.

  3. I really like the dog barks and the chirps of the birds. I like how calming this piece is and how cohesive it is. All of the sounds work really well together and create a really clear scene.

  4. I think there could be more overlapping noises, to help break up the calmness of the morning.

Elsa:

  1. Alex Vought

  2. I'm making a drink in my kitchen, I feel tired and sluggish. I make some food because i'm hungry and go to get ready for the rest of my day.

  3. I really like the music that comes in when you go to take a shower, it helps create the mood for the morning. I also like the sounds from the radio when your driving and how it comes back at the end.

  4. I think the music could've faded out or continued in a way on the walk, it just seemed to end really abruptly.

Emma:

  1. Alex Vought

  2. I am just waking up, opening my blinds and taking a shower. I feel tired and sluggish so i'm going to make myself some breakfast and coffee.

  3. I like the birds chirping in the background, they give a nice background sound to all the actions being performed. I like the sound of footprints when outside it helps create a picture of the scene.

  4. I think the transition between walking and the ending could be a little bit more cohesive, it seemed very abrupt

Luke S:

  1. Alex Vought

  2. I am traveling all over the world, from CO to HI to France. I am feeling tired, and like everything is moving so quickly. Everytime Im somewhere enjoying it I'm transported to a completely different place.

  3. I liked the repetition of the beeps when going from one place to another. I also liked the use of train and airplane sounds in between each place visited. I like how at the end the beeps alternated from each speaker and didn't stick with the original pattern

  4. Something that I think could be improved would be adding more sounds, specifically some to fit each country visited.

Jameson:

  1. Alex Vought

  2. I am in a city, writing down something important. I am nervous because I don’t want to be here / i dont belong.

  3. I like the contrast between the environment in the beginning and the environment with the ducks. They balance well and the combination of sounds you use keeps it very interesting.

  4. I think the transition between places could be a bit smoother, they seemed a bit abrupt, other than that it was very cohesive and very well put together.

Liv:

  1. Alex Vought

  2. I am in an old church but I don't remember how I got here. Everything is super foggy to me and I think I was drugged.

  3. I like how you created a haunted/spooky vibe with the echoing music. I also like how that song is consistent throughout but differing in volumes and how it sounds like it's getting further away. It sets the tone for the whole piece, it makes me question if you're ever going to get away from it.

  4. I think the ending could’ve incorporated more sounds, the entire piece was so well put together but it ended sort of abruptly.

Noa:

  1. Alex Vought

  2. I just woke up, there is a bathroom sink leaking and some music playing faintly. I feel kinda weird, the vibes are kinda eerie.

  3. I like how the radio glitches and repeats itself. I like how this pieces sounds are soothing, but there are subtleties that make the audience feel sort of weird or creeped out. It makes me feel like something bad is going to happen.

  4. I think something that could be improved is more overlapping sounds.

Artist Statement #4

For this webventure, I was inspired by the myscene.com games that I used to play when I was younger. I wanted to create an experience...
